I’m a board-certified Catholic healthcare chaplain at St. Dominic Health in Jackson, Mississippi. My work and research deal with grief and alienation—where they come from, why they cluster, and how they change people.

I am working on my D.Min. project in urban chaplaincy as public witness at Eden Theological Seminary, where my final project centers on the causes and effects of socially unclaimed burials. I am also completing an M.S. in clinical mental health counseling from the University of West Alabama.

Before I was a chaplain, I wrote full-time while caring for family members during prolonged illness. Past publications include Conversations with Jimmy Carter (2023), World History 101 (2017), Civil Liberties: A Beginner’s Guide (2009), and The Absolute Beginner’s Guide to the Bible (2005). I was About.com’s guide to civil liberties from 2006 to 2015, and scripted six videos on philosophy and pop culture for Wisecrack. I hold a Ph.D. in religion and society from Edith Cowan University; my doctoral thesis centers Max Kadushin’s hermeneutics.
